SEO DIY in Three Easy Steps: Step 1

SEO services from professional web developers are charging you too high or they are not performing what you want? If you have some time or a free weekend, you can do it yourself by following the easy steps in below:

1) Key Phrases Research

Ask yourself what key phrases you think that might suit your business or website when someone trying to find for products you sell or services. After a key phrase brainstorming, write them down and generate a list. Consider a geographical phrases if you are targeted to specific geographical location. For instance, someone trying to find a pizza in Auckland, he/she will probably type "Pizza Auckland" or "Auckland Pizza Shop".

Now you should have a list that contains around 20 to 30 key phrases. If not, make more please. Now, take into consideration that popular keywords are usually very competitive. It makes you harder to achiever higher ranking with. For instance, if you are trying to have high ranking for the term "LCD TV", the time to achieve it may be ages. Try to think of the key phases that most related to your business and use those not too competitive. Of course you can use those key phrases that are not or no competitive but it means the key phrases are not popular as well. It has no meaning to optimise the key phrases that no people search.

How to find a right key phrases that are between very competitive and not competitive, here is a list of tools that I use.

Wordtracker

This is my favourite but is not free but is not expensive. I love this tool because they gives me most accurate result for very little cost. You may try it first for free and decide to upgrade for paid version account later. 

Google AdWords tools

Google Adwords Keyword tools is another free and easy tools to give you and idea of key phrases. It also shows you the weighting with an little bar graph that indicate on how much does the key phrase worth in Google Adwards.
